Budget Thuis’ instructions for using your own modem are wrong, at least for me here in Amersfoort. They tell you to use PPPoE on VLAN 6. This did not work at all for me. The instructions are keyed to KPN’s WBA network, but from a traceroute it looks like I’m on the Fiber Crew backbone, which does make sense as Budget’s parent company (Nuts Topholding) acquired Fiber Crew at the end of 2025. Traffic goes through a Jonaz transit:
-> traceroute -A 1.1.1.1
traceroute to 1.1.1.1 (1.1.1.1), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

What got it to work was to just do plain old DHCP on an untagged port. I didn’t even need to grab traffic on a VLAN, although I’m still on GPON. Might be different for XGSPON, Jonaz (Fiber Crew) specifies VLAN 100 on their own settings page.
One issue, it looks like Budget does not offer IPv6 on its Fiber Crew links, all solicits go unanswered. The backbone should support it, but it seems that they haven’t added proper DHCPv6 support to their infrastructure here.
EDIT: Hey, looks like they uploaded a second set of documentation containing this info. Confusingly this document is labeled “Specificaties voor modem op glasvezel Budget Thuis“, whereas the original document I found is labeled “Specificaties voor modem op glasvezel“…
